Serviced offices offer extra space

When the French LVMH Group decided to take over its brand, Make Up For Ever, from local distributors, it set up a subsidiary in Hong Kong for this purpose.
The decision was taken last July and points of sales were taken over from the distributors in January.
However, with all the LVMH brands expanding in Hong Kong and clamouring for more office space, the new team had no room in LVMH's offices.
"We had to start from scratch, so I wanted a temporary but stable working space for my team where they can focus on the handover and transition," says Teresa Lo, brand general manager. "With almost all the brands in Quarry Bay, we were asked to stay in this area. We share the service centre, such as administration, accounting, logistics, human resources ... we even use the meeting rooms."
That is why Make Up For Ever leased office space from Regus business centre, which opened in Quarry Bay in December last year. Lo has a room for herself and there is another room occupied by her five staff.
"One consideration was good working environment. I also like the sea-view, and it is a plus that the place is brand new," Lo says.
She says that while she did not have many expectations, she has been grateful for the promptness and flexibility Regus has shown. She signed the contract on Monday and moved in on Friday.
"I wanted extra chairs and cabinets. They even allowed us to bring in our colour printer," she says.
The pantry has proven to be another attraction, as the staff often have meetings while having a coffee there. Lo is thinking about renewing the contract for another three months.
The centre spreads over 8,500 sq ft and can accommodate workspace for more than 130 people. A new feature is the single-workstation offices that can be used as day offices when not occupied by clients long-term. "We have found these to be very popular in other parts of the Asia-Pacific, so we are looking forward to seeing how they will be received in Hong Kong," says Jon Walsh, Regus' spokesman in Hong Kong.
"Business is healthy and while we do have a number of open workstations, we are seeing demand grow, which is completely in line with our expectations."
